How Can a Company Get Certified?

Unlike previous measures, CMMC is not based on self-certification. Instead, the maturity and capability of your company’s information systems and processes will need to be assessed against the requirements set by the CMMC standard by an accredited and independent third-party.

The process for approving audit bodies is ongoing but you can check your readiness against the requirements of CMMC through a pre-assessment with SGS. Once audit bodies are approved to deliver CMMC audits, you will then be able to set up a formal assessment.

You will specify the level of the certification you require, based on your company’s business requirements. On successful completion of the CMMC assessment you will be awarded certification at the appropriate CMMC level.

Levels of Certification

CMMC offers five levels of certification, from level 1 “Basic Cybersecurity Hygiene” to level 5 “Advanced”.

The higher your company certifies, the more contracts you will eligible to bid on.
