The Pesticide Residue team, with more than 60 years of combined experience, includes veteran employees of the now-closed SDSU Olson Analytical Laboratory. The newly-formed department compliment the soil and feed testing laboratory, which was already located in Brookings, SD.

Rose Neal, Pesticide Residue Scientist, leads our Residue Lab team and provides a wealth of technical knowledge when clients need individualized testing plans for unique situations. Zelda McGinnis-Schlobohm, our Client Services Specialist, can assist clients in determining appropriate testing packages and submission of samples. Dr. Julee Driver, Angela Carlson, and Richard Larson focus on test method development and customer service.

Inadvertent chemical spray or herbicide drift from a nearby field can cause issues for neighboring areas. In most cases, injury to the plant is evident, but the causal agent isn’t. Assessing crops located near the field, as well as location in relation to the injured area, leads to probable types of herbicide. Different classes of compounds cause a variety of symptoms, which can be used to indicate a starting point for analysis.

SGS tests for pesticide residues in soil, plant material, and water. Screens for plant growth regulators, neutral herbicides, sulfonylureas and imidazoles, are available, as well as individual analysis for glyphosate, glufosinate, flumioxazin, aminopyralid and clethodim. Over the season, different chemicals have been added to our capabilities. Please call us if you have a specific chemical you wish to test for.

SGS Brookings has the ability to test soil, plant tissue for fertility, biotechnology traits, or disease, feed and forages for quality and microbial aspects as well as feed or food products for contaminants such as pesticides, antibiotics, or mycotoxins.
