Brookings, SD – The SGS GLP (Good Laboratory Practices) Laboratory and Field Research Divisions located in Brookings, South Dakota, recently completed an EPA inspection of their GLP facilities which concluded with no negative findings 1 . This successful inspection allows data generated from these locations to be utilized for domestic and international GLP studies.

As global demand for food and grains expands, crop protection and development of new varieties must occur to meet world food needs. Insecticides, herbicides, and genetic engineering play a crucial role in increasing yields and expanding the diversity of conditions under which crops can be grown. As agrochemical companies continue research to develop new products and to improve the effectiveness and scope of current products, SGS assists these companies by providing GLP field and laboratory testing services.

The GLP laboratory in Brookings performs GLP compliant testing on seeds, raw agricultural and processed commodities for:
• Seed treatment application
• Seed treatment rate verification
• Magnitude of residues
• Qualitative and quantitative immunoassays (ELISA)
• Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) studies
• Independent laboratory validation

The SGS GLP Laboratory Division is part of the SGS Brookings facility, which is ISO 17025 accredited for performing microbiological, nutritional, chemical composition, PCR, and DNA testing on a variety of food products and feed ingredients. The seed division of the laboratory is ISTA (International Seed Testing Association) accredited with expertise in seed germination, purity, and vigor. The laboratory is able to perform GLP compliant testing within any of these areas. Research directors are available who can create and manage testing protocols to support specialized research needs a client may have for regulatory studies.

In addition to the laboratory facilities in Brookings, SGS operates twelve field research facilities capable of performing GLP trials in EPA and NAFTA regions 2, 3, 4, 5, 5A, 6, 7, 8 and 10.

SGS is the world’s leading inspection, verification, testing and certification company. SGS is recognized as the global benchmark for quality and integrity. With more than 75,000 employees, SGS operates a network of over 1,500 offices and laboratories around the world.
