SGS Brookings Conducts Tour for South Dakota Governor Daugaard
SGS Brookings was proud to host South Dakota Governor Dennis Daugaard and other local and state officials on July 17, 2017, as part of the Capital for a Day program. During the visit, the Governor and First Lady toured the company’s new 68,000 sq. ft. laboratory, seeing first-hand the work that SGS does to support the agriculture and food industry locally and across the globe.
Following the visit Governor Daugaard said, “I thank the staff from SGS for welcoming me to their new facility in Brookings. This company is performing high quality, complex scientific food, feed and seed testing for customers all over the world right here in South Dakota.”
Local SGS management used this event as an opportunity to demonstrate how the Brookings laboratory has grown over the years from a small company to the world’s largest independent seed testing laboratory and also now encompasses ISO 17025 accredited testing for feed, crops and food.
One of three Brookings businesses chosen to host the governor and his team, SGS employees were proud to showcase their new building and capabilities. “Our employees represent the hard workers found in South Dakota, and we were very excited for the opportunity to show the Governor, as well as city and state leaders, what we do,” Nichole Berkenhoff, SGS Business Manager, said.
During the Capital for a Day event, the Governor’s activities included a Main Street walk, business tours around town, and a community social and coffee hour. The Governor also held a roundtable for community leaders to meet and discuss the needs of the city.
“Capital for a Day is an excellent opportunity for me to become better acquainted with the people of Brookings and the issues affecting their area. It gets me out of the office and into businesses like SGS,” said Governor Daugaard.
